Step one: PREPARATION OF APPLICATION DOCUMENTS FOR A JOB

CURRICULUM VITAE

A CV is a short description of your skills, education and experience. The purpose of this CV is to be invited for an interview. Your CV has to mention several main points:

  • Personal information: name, date of birth, address, telefone, e-mail address and fax number if any.

  • Education : schools, qualifications, special education, educational degrees, period of education, year of graduation

  • Professional experience : name and activity (if not confidential) of the companies / organisations that you have worked for ; the positions you had occupied ; main duties and responsibilities of your job positions; periods of employment

  • Other skills : computer knowledge – software you are skilled at ; foreing languages – what foreign languages you speak and at what level ; driving licence and other additional courses and qualifications

  • It is recommended that you apply a recent photo .

    When a job announcement is published in a foreign language, the employer expects the application documents to be written in the same language.

    COVER LETTER


    The purpose of the cover letter is to give the employer a short presentation of you. A cover letter is presented together with the application documents only if explicitly required.
    When you make a short presnetation o fyour personal abilities you try to convince the employer that you can bring value to his organisation.
    Most cover letters contain three paragraphs:

  • Short presentation of you and your professional experience;

  • Short description of your education and your abilities;

  • Description of your motives to apply for the vacant job position in this company .
  • We recommend that you never use a standardized cover letter. Every competition and every employer are different and your aim is to be eligible for it.

    Step two: PREPARATION FOR AN INTERVIEW


    Many of you tend to neglect this very important stage in the competition win strategy. It is very important that you first get yourself acquainted with the company you are applying for – history, activities, corporate culture and so on.

    In this way you will have more clear notion about what exactly you are applying for, what you could expect. And most of all, during the interview you will be able to have a more clear idea about what is expected of you.

    Before the interview you must carefully consider which of your abilities you would like to present and how exactly to do this. Qualifications are important but all research prove that a successful interview presnetation depend first of all on the personality.

    Right or not, most interviewers are influenced by what they see. The right dress code for an interview may vary greatly depending on the position you apply for. In most cases strictly keeping to the business dress code is correct. You can’t get blamed for dressing up conservative, however, it is important that you feel comfortable and neat during the interview. Be cheerful, positive and open.

    Remember that an interview is a two-sided rpocess ! Both you and the interviewer are trying to understand whether the position and the application are suitable for one another.
